Children's Classes

Scholarships

Limited scholarships are available for both children's and parenting classes.
Children & Parent Class Scholarship Application

Childcare

Childcare is Available for Parenting Classes

  • For children ages 3 and up
  • Pre-registration for childcare is required
  • No drop-ins for child-care, please
  • Staffed by our experienced, Habitot staff
  • Childcare is held in main museum
  • $10 first child, $5 each additional child
  • Please include request for childcare and payment with your class registration form

Class Policies

Deadline for Enrollment

  • A minimum of 8 pre-registered attendees for children's classes and 10 pre-registered adults for parenting classes are required for classes to run.
  • Payment for all classes must be received a week prior to the start of the class.
  • Habitot reserves the right to cancel programs that are under-enrolled. If Habitot cancels a class, a full refund for the remaining value of the class will be provided.

Siblings
Children over 6 months and under 2 years are welcome to attend children's classes and participate in activities or play with toys in the classroom space as long as they do not disrupt the class and are supervised by their parent or caregiver. The parent/caregiver is expected to clean up after younger siblings. $10 per sibling per series - Please enclose payment with registration.

Confirmation
All class enrollments are confirmed by email. Placement in a class is not guaranteed until you receive confirmation.

Withdrawal
Class fees are fully refundable until fourteen days before the class start date. Within the fourteen days before the first day of class, 50% of the class fee is refundable. Refunds are not given for "no-shows" or absences. If, after attending the first class meeting, you decide to withdraw, 25% of the remaining value of the classes in the session is refundable. There are no refunds after the second meeting.

Absences
There are no make-up classes or refunds for student absence. Make-ups will be scheduled for instructor absence due to illness.

Special Needs Children
Habitot welcomes children with many kinds of special needs, including those with visual impairment, hearing impairment, Down's Syndrome, and others.

However, we are unable to accommodate special needs children who have significant physical, sensory or social/emotional disorders or who have special needs that require more support than we can provide with a 1:6 staff to child ratio and keep children safe.

Habitot reserves the right to dis-enroll any child for any reason with a full refund. Please contact our Early Childhood Programs Manager at (510) 647-1111 x17 to discuss your child's needs prior to enrollment.

Peanut-Free Environments
Due to the life-threatening risk of peanuts and peanut-products, we ask that parents do not bring these foods to Habitot Children’s Museum and Habitot, Too Classroom as they are peanut-free environments.

Class Location
All classes take place in Habitot's classroom annex, Habitot, Too, located at 2065 Kittredge Street in downtown Berkeley.

Additional Policies for Winter and Summer Camps

Pick-up and Drop-Off Service
(for children 3 years and up)
Habitot offers drop-off and pick-up curbside service for pre-registered camp attendees ONLY. Arrange for pick-up and drop-offs when you register. If you would like to authorize other adults to pick-up your child from class, please fill out an Authorization Card on the first day of class.

Parent Participation
All children must be escorted to and from camps. Parents or caregivers are welcome to participate in all camp sessions. For children younger than 3 years, a parent or caregiver must attend the entire camp with the child.

Late Pick-Ups
We expect parents/caregivers to pick up children promptly at the end of camp. A five-minute grace period will be allowed at no charge. After that time, parents will be charged $20 for every fifteen minutes before pick-up. Please call Managing Director, Josh Brandt-Young at (510) 647-1111 x15 in case of an emergency.
