Materials

  • Small plastic egg
  • 8 to 12" balloon
  • Dropper or paintbrush
  • Liquid watercolor or food color
  • Tray or baking sheet

Directions
  1. Fill the egg with a small plastic dinosaur, animal or other fun object and snap shut.
  2. Insert the egg into the balloon and fill the balloon with water, tie end in knot and freeze balloon on a tray overnight.
  3. When the ice is solid (24 hours), take out and peel off the rubber balloon. Discard pieces as they are choking hazards.
  4. Replace ice ball on tray and let your child drip watercolor or food color onto the ice ball to see the pattens of color as the ice ball melts.
  5. Act surprised when your child discovers the egg!
