Winners Announced in 4th Annual Preschool Teacher Awards

4th Annual Preschool Teachers Make a Difference AwardsTen preschool teachers have been selected from a field of 115 nominations drawn from private, parochial, Head Start and state-supported preschools from cities throughout the Bay Area in Habitot's 2012 "Preschool Teachers Make a Difference" awards and recognition event. Congratulations to all teachers who were nominated.

Sean Casey, Executive Director of First 5 Contra Costa and one of this year's judges said, "Thanks for asking me to do this; it was fun reading through all the nominations, and a tough choice in the end. Really hard not to appreciate everyone who chooses this profession." In addition to Sean Casey, this year's judges included Linda Olivenbaum of California's Early Childhood Mentorship Program and Sandra Giarde of the California Association for the Education of Young Children.

Winning teachers will be celebrated at a “Back-to-School” ceremony at Habitot on Monday evening, September 24, 2012, from 6:30 pm–8:30 pm. All those nominated, families of winning teachers, judges as well as nominators are invited along with the entire community. Mark your calendars!

Thank you once again to a long-time anonymous donor for providing gift certificates for each winning teacher as well as to Folkmanis and Childcraft–School Specialty for donating in-kind gifts to this year's winners. Teachers also receive free field trips and a family membership from Habitot. Nominees of winning teachers will receive a 5-Visit Pass.

Habitot's Nomination Garners Corporate Philanthropy Award for State Farm

Corporate Philanthropy 2012 AwardsState Farm, a long-time Habitot donor, is in the business of helping people after accidents, but the insurance giant also likes to take preventative measures. That’s why over a decade ago, the company decided to partner with Habitot Children’s Museum to offer safety awareness events for parents with young children.

"It ties back to our core business strategy," said Lonny Haskins, who runs State Farm's philanthropic programs. "We want to make a commitment to our community to play a role in keeping young families healthy and safe for a long time." To recognize and appreciate State Farm for their support of our Early Childhood Safety Campaign over the years, Habitot recently nominated State Farm for a corporate philanthropy award. Last month, they won the Health Philanthropy Award from the San Francisco Business Times. See link.
