Materials

  • 1 large bowl
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1- 1/2 cups table salt
  • 1/2 - 1 cup water
  • tea light (small flat candle)
  • metallic or tempra paint
  • glitter or plastic jewels (optional)

Directions
  1. (Child) Mix the salt and flour together
  2. (Grownup) Add water and stir vigorously until you get a dough-like mass
  3. If it is too watery, add salt, then flour
  4. Knead until you have a solid ball
  5. Break off a tennis ball size of dough and roll into a ball
  6. Hold the ball in your hand and press a tea light into it until it forms a rounded doughnut shape around the tea light.
  7. Gently press the ball on a table until it has a flat side on the bottom.
  8. Remove the tea light until the salt dough dries (about a day).
  9. When dry, paint with metallic or other color paint, then sprinkle glitter or glue plastic jewels around the opening.
  10. When dry, put the tea light back in. Give as gifts or put on your holiday table!
