The last weeks of December saw a surge of visitors as vacationing relatives, parents off work, and out-of-school preschoolers sought out Habitot's fun and educational setting. "This is a great concept!" said one grandfather of 13 on his first visit.
Year-round, Habitot's audience is heavily weighted toward members, making covering fixed costs more challenging in the non-rainy season. Members can help sustain Habitot throughout the year by bringing admission-paying friends on each visit. Remember - visitors accompanying members receive discounted admission! |

Habitot has nearly reached the half-way mark in its critical needs Campaign to raise $100,000 by the end of February.
Seventy-five donors, many of them for the first time, have stepped forward to give or match gifts, together raising over $25,000. An additional $10,000 in operational support will come from our First 5 Alameda County grant which was renewed for two more years in December. A rent reduction will also contribute to our goal.
However, tens of thousands of matching dollars pledged by supporters remains on the table -- more donations must be raised to claim those dollars for Habitot -- and to close the critical gap in funding from lost corporate and foundation grants. To remain operational after the busy winter season ends in March, Habitot must raise at least an additional $50,000.
Every gift you give today will be matched one for one, doubling your support of Habitot. Please help keep our doors open! |

Americorps Volunteer, Matejka Handley, worked full-time from mid-August to mid-December to complete Habitot's first formal volunteer recruitment plan. A volunteer needs assessment, job descriptions, announcement postings, a new brochure, database layout and an orientation plan have all been developed and put into place.
Funding is being sought to hire a volunteer coordinator to make the program operational. Volunteers support programs and help us conserve cash in tight times.
