Habitot News

Thank you to our firefighter fans!

Firehouse ExhibitYou did it! With a final recent donation received in June, we reached our mini-campaign goal to bring back our popular Firehouse exhibit, raising almost exactly the $3,000 needed! Thank you, donors!

We're getting to work on exhibit refurbishing at this moment—look for the exhibit to return early this fall. In the meantime, and take advantage of the Rocketship and Mission Control exhibit for a few more months.

Donations are still welcome if you'd like to join us at the Donors and Friends Firehouse Preview Opening event coming soon. To read how your donation will be used, check out our Firehouse exhibit details or Donate online.

Summer Camps for Tots Begin June 18

Preschool Teachers Make a DifferenceNew and returning LGBTQ families are invited to a family/community play day and Open House on Sunday, July 1 from 10 am–2 pm to explore the museum and connect with other families. Sunnie Kaufman-Paulman, Habitot's Board President, will be on hand to greet parents and share Habitot's vision for the community and the future of Habitot. To RSVP to the free event, please contact Cheryl at Our Family Coalition at Cheryl@ourfamily.org.

Through a 10-year-olds' Eyes

Blue Star Museum LogoHabitot's founder and executive director, Gina Moreland, recently caught up with ten-year-old Rafi W., who was visiting Habitot again after a six-year hiatus. "Oh, wow!" said Rafi, "I remember the rocketship, and the wiggle wall and the water tower!" Rafi went right to the mission control buttons looking for the one that announces, "I told you not to push that button!" "This is a children's paradise," according to Rafi, "and (back then) it was the 'lighter' to my ideas. I got so many ideas there, even some I have forgotten! When I got older, I pretended to be someone who worked there and helped other kids." And Rafi still has ideas, rattling off a caveman exhibit, a safari jungle, a castle, a pirate ship, an Egyptian pyramid and a 'spongy thing you could crawl through like Swiss cheese,' as ideas for new exhibits. What really made an impression on Rafi was how Habitot "showed you how things worked." "It was a turning point in my life. I'm an idea man today."

Thanks to all our alumni and new families, who keep this unique community resource going though donations, volunteering and good word of mouth, for the benefit of generation after generation of young children and idea men and women of the future.

Getting a New Care this Year?

Donate your Car If so, please consider donating your old car to Habitot! Since January 2011, Habitot has received 11 donated cars and raised $3,682 for museum exhibits and programs. Proceeds are tax-deductible and the company we work with makes it easy as can be. They come and tow your car and handle all the paperwork and sales. Check out our website for more info. Thanks to all the generous individuals who have donated vehicles.
