Materials

  • Ice cube tray
  • Water
  • Measuring cup
  • Non-toxic watercolors, tempera paint or food coloring
  • Popsicle sticks (optional)

Directions
  1. Mix a 1/4 cup of water with each of the paint, water or food colors in a measuring cup.
  2. Pour the liquid into ice cube trays so that each section is 2/3 full.
  3. Place a popsicle stick in each section, allowing it to rest on the side of the tray.
  4. Place tray in freezer overnight.
  5. Give children the ice "paintsicles" to use as paintbrushes on white paper plates or outside on light-colored concrete. When the water dries, the paper plate (or sidewalk) will be painted.
