Back to the Farm Summertime Events girl holding corn
Planting Seeds
Friday, June 12 • 3:30 pm


At 3:30 pm, compare many different seeds and the vegetable they grow into. See how seeds for new plants are contained in many vegetables. Each child may plant seeds for their favorite vegetable in a peat pot to take home.

Butter-Making & Tortilla Pressing
Wednesday, June 17 • 11:30 am


At 11:30 am, share in the farmwork work of making butter from cream by taking your turn cranking a tabletop butter churn. Press tortilla dough in the tortilla press and watch as we toast tortillas on a griddle. Sample warm buttered tortillas when they're ready!

Worm Day
Tuesday, June 30 • 10:00 am - 11:30 pm


At 10 am, visit with Melissa, the Worm Lady, and her collection of live earthworms and learn how they wiggle through soil to help plants grow. In the Art Studio, make special worm sculptures all day and in the Reading Tent at 12:00 pm, hear stories about gardens and worms.

Preserve your child's artistry by glazing a ceramic mug for dad anytime during the week of June 8-13! Mugs will be fired at Habitot and available for pick-up during the week of June 15-20. $16 each.
Indoor Beach Week Beach
June 15 - 20 • regular hours

The WaterWorks exhibit will be transformed into a summertime beach with colorful beach towels, beach umbrellas, beach balls and water toys. Wear your swimsuits!
Family Pride Day Family Pride Rainbow Tree
Saturday, June 20 • 9:30 am - 4:30 pm
Our Family Coalition will take and print free family portraits from 10:00am-2:00pm in the museum. Decorate matboard frames for them with glitter, ribbons, stickers in the Art Studio. All day, add your messages to our "Family" mural (on display in the museum from June 22-June 27). Storytelling from books about loving children in all kinds of families, in the Reading Tent at 11:30 am and 3:30 pm.

Katherine Brown of the Berkeley Public Health Department's Lead Poisoning Prevention Program will be on hand 10:30 - 12:30 to discuss household lead risks, abatement and testing. Bring paint chips, toys or ceramics for free evaluation. Event and free admission for this event sponsored by State Farm Insurance Companies.

Parent's Night Out Parent's Night Out
Friday, June 26 • 5:30 pm - 9:30 pm
Drop off your kids for play and fun while parents enjoy a movie or dinner out. $30 per child, $5 discount for siblings. Pizza for dinner included. Space limited, to reserve call Lydia at 510-647-1111 ext. 14

Fridays, June 5, 12, 19, 26 • 11:30 am - 12:30 pm
Our friends at Bowzer’s Pizza (upstairs on Shattuck Ave.) will deliver child-sized cheese slices on sale for $1 each. Deliveries every 15 minutes as needed. Proceeds benefit the Museum.
