Habitot News

Habitot Recognized as a Leader in Bringing Arts to New Communities

Local Motherhood Author Donates Book Proceeds to Habitot Habitot has been recognized as a leader in expanding the arts to new audiences by Partners for Livable Communities in its recently published, Stories for Change. “While Habitot has served over 950,000 people since its opening in 1998, its outreach to underserved communities and its commitment to community building and equitable childhood education is what make it stand out. Often, youth in underserved communities do not have the same level of access to educational opportunities; Habitot partners with hundreds of social service agencies, teen parent programs, library literacy programs, homeless shelters, Head Start schools, and hospitals serving special needs children to provide greater access.” In particular, our Caregiver Café program, strengthening the social lives of immigrant caregivers, and Together Again, which uses guided playtime in the museum to create a stronger bond between formerly incarcerated mothers and their children, were mentioned. Firehouse Fundraiser Underway

Habitot Firehouse ExhibitWe are still raising donations needed to bring back our wonderful Firehouse exhibit. Many people have asked exactly what we need the money for and how their donation will be used. The $3,000 we are trying to raise is 100% for direct expenses for the exhibit—no staff time, no general museum support. Please check out our new link to see an itemized list of how you can help!
