Materials

  • Large clear plastic bottle (soda or water) with screw cap lid
  • Rice, millet, quinoa or rice shaped pasta
  • Trinkets, small toys and figurines, coins, keys, leftovers from party favor bags and other small items that could fit in the bottle
  • White glue, hot glue or other sealant

Directions
  1. Rines and thoroughly dry the inside of the bottle.
  2. Place 10 to 20 small items in the bottle.
  3. Fill the bottle with rice or other grain leaving about 3 inches at the top.
  4. Place a small bit of glue inside the lid and seal the bottle tightly. For extra security, you could tape the lid, too.
  5. Let children tip and turn the bottle until they can spot all of the items by name.
  6. Older children can find objects that start with the same sound, for example key and cat.
