Leaf Splatter Painting

Leaf Splatter Painting

Alttag here

• shallow box lid
• construction paper
• masking tape
• old toothbrushes
• mesh-type collander or piece of metal screen
• leaves
• tempera paints
• bowls for paints

Alttag here

1. Use a lid from a box that is approximately 9 by 12 inches or larger.
2. Have your child pick out a piece of colored construction paper and help them to cut it to fit inside the box lid.
3. Collect fall leaves outdoors and let your child arrange the leaves on the paper. Tape the backs of the leaves to the paper.
4. Dip a toothbrush into tempera paint thinned with a little water, hold the collander over the paper and brush across the screen. Alternatively, you can flick the bristles of the toothbrush so the paint splatters over the paper and leaves.
5. When the tempera dries, remove the leaves.
