(Berkeley, CA) October-November, 2007—
Workshops for parents and caregivers offer the unique opportunity to develop skills and increase knowledge about early childhood development, while creating a community of support for those raising the next generation. Experienced parenting professionals offer a wide variety of perspectives, strategies and approaches to foster each parenting style.

Handling Parent Anger - Parents of young children often find themselves locked in power struggles over everyday situations or getting angry and not knowing how to act or how to channel emotions appropriately. In this interactive workshop, parents learn to identify their own anger "triggers," to express their anger constructively and safely, and to teach children the "angry rules."
Tuesday, October 16 from 6:00-7:30 pm, Instructor Pnina Tobin

Raising Children in Multiracial Families - Multiracial children are one of the fastest growing segments of the U.S. population. This workshop will look closely at the developmental stages where racial identity is formulated, help parents to assist children with developing coping skills to handle questions and/or biases about their background and encourage and support a multicultural life for the whole family.
Tuesday, October 30 from 6:00-7:30pm, Instructor Tarah Fleming, MA

CPR and Choking for Infants and for Children 0-8 - The workshop will teach parents and caregivers what to do in cases of drowning, suffocation, poisoning, electric shock and other breathing emergencies. Practice choke saving skills and CPR using realistic infant- and toddler-sized mannequins. Handouts provided. Non-certificate class. $30 for adults.
Tuesday, November 6 from 6:00-7:30pm, Instructor Anna Griffin, EMT

No More Diapers! - Toilet learning can seem confusing to parents and toddlers alike. This workshop will make this developmental stage ago as smoothly as possible. Topics include assessing readiness, toilet-learning techniques, dealing with resistance, and nap-and night-training.
Tuesday, November 13 from 6:00-7:30, instructor Lee Ann Slaton

Positive Discipline for Young Children - Tired of nagging and yelling to get your child to behave? In this workshop, parents of children ages 6 months - 5 years will learn simple, gentle discipline strategies that will teach children to cooperate, learn social skills (such as sharing,) reduce tantrums, and enhance their self-esteem and confidence.
Thursday, November 15 from 6:00-7:30, Instructor Pnina Tobin

All classes take place at Habitot Children's Museum and are $20 per adult, unless otherwise noted. Scholarships and childcare are available. To register, please visit http://www.habitot.org/hab/classes_register.htm or call Liz Austerman at (510) 647-1111 x17.
