Family Outreach Program

Low-income & Special Needs

The Family Outreach Program ensures that Habitot's exhibits and programs serve a broad and diverse audience; in particular low-income and special needs children and their families. Habitot is committed to providing all parents with young children with an enriching play and learning experience.

We Accomplish our Goals by...

  • Providing free preschool group field trips to Head Start and low-income preschools
  • Subsiding hundreds of Family Plus memberships each year
  • Partnering with agencies to distribute low-income admission passes
  • Offering all parenting classes on a sliding scale basis
  • Giving full or partial scholarships to low-income children for art / music classes
  • Scheduling Free Admission Days with targeted multicultural programming
  • Hosting Teen Parent and Foster Parent play and learning days
  • Implementing low-income off-site community art, health and safety programs
  • Distributing dozens of organizational passes for libraries and social service agencies for use by their patrons and clients

Family Outreach Program Helps Many Families

More than 7.772 family outreach visitors have been recruited through these outreach efforts during 2007. The value of the free services Habitot provides through this program exceeds $56,000 a year. Habitot's Family Outreach Program is supported by individual gifts and foundation grants. We are always seeking community support to expand the program.
