Reference Library for Parents
Helping parents and caregivers succeed at the most challenging job on the planet -- raising children -- is a big part of Habitot's mission. Our Parent Resource Center provides visiting parents, teachers and caregivers with a reference library of parenting books, videos, and other resource materials, plus handouts on up to date parenting topics. Habitot also publishes "Parent to Parent" brochures on typical early childhood behaviors and learning strategies to use with young children. Family members can check out the library’s references. Our on-site family resource coordinator will help you find materials that interest you.

Habitot's Other Parenting Resources
Sign up for Habitot's electronic newsletter Totmail. Along with news and information about the museum, Totmail addresses a different parenting topic each month. The newsletter cites books, references, and articles available in our library and lists helpful websites, too. We do not share or trade email addresses with anyone. To sign up, please email us at hcmimc@habitot.org.

Parenting classes are also offered throughout the year, two to three evenings a week. Topics addressed in classes include early childhood learning and development, children's learning styles, communication skills, discipline strategies, childhood safety and dealing with temperament. Classes emphasize the development of successful parenting strategies, alternatives to physical punishment, children's mental health and basic safety of children (CPR, choke-saving and first aid). Classes reflect community needs such as a recent workshop in helping children deal with scary events, world crises and other emergencies. Scholarships and child care are available for classes.
