Camp Information
Frequently Asked Questions
Location of Camps
Our spring, winter and summer camps all take place in the Museum's classroom annex, just down the corridor from the main Museum. As a general rule children do not visit the Main museum during camps due to the challenges of supervising during open hours. Summer afternoon camps (late August) do occasionally visit Habitot when the Museum is closed to the public.
Minimum Camp Enrollment
A minimum of 8 pre-registered attendees for children's camps are required for each camp to run. Fees for camps that are cancelled for low enrollment will be refunded or applied to another camp of your choosing.
Payment of Fees
Payment for all classes must be received a week prior to the start of the camp.
Confirmation Packet
All camp enrollments are confirmed by email. Placement in a camp is not guaranteed until you receive this confirmation. Your confirmation packet will arrive in the mail. We request that you complete and return this one week prior to the camp so that your child's instructor can prepare for your child. No child will be admitted to a camp without a completed confirmation packet.
Refunds
Camp fees are fully refundable up until fourteen days before the start date. Between fourteen days before and the start date, 50% of the prepaid fee is refundable. No refunds after camps begin. Refunds are not given for "no-shows" or absences.
Withdrawals and Removals
After attending the first day of camp, you decide to withdraw from the remaining days, 25% of the remaining value of the camp is refundable. There are no refunds after the second meeting.
Habitot reserves the right to remove any child from camp for any reason with a full refund. Please contact our Events & Camps Manager at (510) 647-1111 x17 to discuss your child's needs prior to enrollment.
Absences
There are no make-ups or refunds for student absence. Refunds will be given for instructor absence.
Children with Special Needs
Habitot’s spring, summer and winter camps welcome children with special needs and we have had great success enrolling children with a wide variety of disabilities. We have a 1:6 staff to child ratio and our priority is to provide all children a safe classroom space. We are open to enrolling any child on a trial basis. At Habitot’s sole discretion, we may allow parents to provide, at their cost, an aide for a child with special needs. Please provide full disclosure of your child’s special needs so that we may assess our ability to serve you and your child.
A Nut- and Peanut-Free Environment
Due to the life-threatening risk of nuts, peanuts and nut- and peanut-containing products, we ask that parents do not send these foods with children attending camps at Habitot. The entire Museum is a nut- and peanut-free environment.
Pick-up and Drop-Off Service
After the first day of camp, Habitot offers drop-off and pick-up curbside service for pre-registered camp attendees. Your camp confirmation packet includes authorization for pick-ups and drop-offs. If you would like to authorize other adults to pick-up your child from class, please indicate this on your form.
Parent Participation
Children must be escorted to and from camps on the first day. Parents or caregivers are welcome to stay during the initial 15 minutes of 'free play' in all camp sessions.
Late Pick-Ups
We expect parents/caregivers to pick up children promptly at the end of camp. A five-minute grace period will be allowed at no charge. After that time, parents will be charged $20 for every fifteen minutes before pick-up. Please call the Camp Manager at (510) 647-1111 x17 in case of an emergency.
