Together Again

Formerly Incarcerated Parents

Habitot partners with Centerforce- an organization serving communities of incarcerated people and their loved ones- to plan and deliver exclusive visit times for mothers recently released from the Santa Rita Women's Facility. At Habitot, these mothers bond and reconnect with their preschool-aged children through art and play. The 2012 pilot program was generously seeded by a grant from the Trio Foundation.

Playing at Habitot Provides Opportunities for Meaningful Reconnection

Centerforce staff notice that at Habitot, parents and children "smile more" and that parents are more and more engaged with their children each time they visit. Said one case manager, "Habitot is a great asset!" One mother shared, "I learned my daughter has a greater imagination than I knew!"

Take Home Activities and Handouts

Take home activities and handouts are provided to each familiy, as well as free return visit passes.
