The Land Before Time Week - Morning Summer Camps

Go back in time to when ferocious dinosaurs walked the earth. Make dinosaur footprints, dig for dinosaur bones, find fossils and create a mystical prehistoric landscape with volcanoes. Learn songs about our dinosaur friends and act out favorite dinosaur stories. Every child will take home a mini dinosaur. For 2.9–4.9 years, $200/week; $195/week, members/pass holder. Mamas & Papas (LGBTQ Families) with Our Family Coalition
5:30 pm–7:30 pm
Join our free, drop-in support group for gay and lesbian families and their 0-5 year old children, presented in partnership with Our Family. While parents engage in lively and supportive conversations facilitated by Habitot and Our Family staff in our classroom annex (Habitot, Too), children play (with supervision) in the Museum.

Making Transitions Easier for Preschoolers
FREE Parenting Workshops with registration
7:00 pm–8:30 pm
As parents we need to help our children manage transitions and change. Transitions can be major shifts, like entering preschool or welcoming a sibling. This workshop will help parents:

  • Learn strategies for handling preschooler’s big and small transitions
  • Understand and respond to the feelings that naturally arise during transitions
  • Improve parents' and children's abilities to regulate reactions while enhancing the family's resilience and self-reflection.

Early Childhood Safety Campaign

State Farm Insurance is once again sponsoring Habitot's annual "Early Childhood Safety Campaign" which will launch with a FREE car seat inspection event on Saturday, August 9,
10 am - 12 pm.
The inspection will be held at City Hall parking lot 1555 Oak St., in Alameda. The inspections are offered on a first come, first serve basis and the last car will be taken at 12 noon. Click Here For More Information.

FREE Parenting Workshops with registration

All parents want to raise happy, secure and loving kids. The good news is that there are proven parenting methods that will help you succeed. Local psychologist, mom, and parentcoach, Dr. Erica Reischer, will lead this free, interactive workshop.

Topics that will be touched on include:

  • The ABCs of positive parenting: Acceptance, Boundaries, Consistency
  • 10 things great parents do
  • How to redirect challenging behavior
  • Why poorly worded praise can undermine kids’ motivation and achievement and what to do instead
  • How to help your kids manage stress, disappointment and other intense emotions
  • The importance of cultivating gratitude and other happiness habits in your family

Foster Family Fun Day

Habitot opens its doors for a special exclusive and FREE event just for foster, kinship and adoptive families. Children of all ages (including siblings) are welcome. Meet other foster/adoptive families and enjoy time together while playing with our fun hands-on exhibits and creative art activities in our Art Studio. Please bring a change of clothing so your child can enjoy art and water play. Free snacks and a take-home book for each child provided.

Share some coffee and pastries, connect with other caregiving professionals and talk about the fun and challenges you face in raising others' children. Habitot staff will occupy your charges at nearby tables with art activities and puzzles while you take part in a facilitated group discussion.
