Join experienced Spanish-English singer Mariela Herrera in a bi-lingual music and storytelling experience that will help children learn two languages while singing songs and playing games. Toddlers will move to a Latin beat, sing along in Spanish and English and play drums, bells, maracas, rhythm sticks and more! $7 per-child/drop-in; $50/8-classes pass.

Mamas & Papas (LGBTQ Families) with Our Family Coalition
5:30–7:30 pm
Join our free, drop-in support group for gay and lesbian families and their 0-5 year old children, presented in partnership with Our Family. While parents engage in lively and supportive conversations facilitated by Habitot and Our Family staff in our classroom annex (Habitot, Too), children play (with supervision) in the Museum.

Breakfast Club

In this popular hands-on cooking class, preschool teacher and mom Nicole Ramsay will teach children how to make nutritious and easy recipes for breakfast while they learn about kitchen chemistry, diet and nutrition. Recipes will include omelets, yogurt parfaits, breakfast burritos and more, and children get to eat their creations at the end of every class! $7 per-child/drop-in; $50/8-classes pass.

Join talented musician from Your Song My Song, Jaime Lee Currier in her "Kid's Band" where everybody gets to play an instrument. She'll play the ukulele while kids shake maracas, hit tambourines, clap sticks and jingle bells. Original and classic songs, finger plays and puppets will delight young and old in this fun, interactive class.
$7 per-child/drop-in; $50/8-classes pass.

Lunch Beat

Our friend Venus French is the local leader of the Lunchbeat phenomenon, one of the global freestyle dance movements that use natural rhythms and creative movement-perfect for tots! Bring your brown bag lunch and eat with us following Lunch Beat, free fruit smoothies for all participants. In our classroom Annex. $7 per child drop-in

Pizza Fridays!
11:30 am–12:30 pm
Our friends at Papa John’s (2222 Shattuck Ave.) will deliver child-sized cheese slices on sale for $1 each. Deliveries every 15 minutes as needed. Proceeds benefit the Museum.

Japanese Children's Day

In the Art Studio, create Koinobori, paper wind socks in the shape of carp that represent father, mother and children in preparation for tomorrow's celebration of Japanese Children's Day which historically occurs on the fifth day of the fifth month. Japanese Children's Day celebrates children's personalities and their happiness.

Cinco de Mayo
9:30 am – 12:30 pm
Following yesterday’s community event, celebrate Mexican heritage and pride in Habitot’s Art Studio, creating traditional Mexican paper flowers with multicolored tissue paper and pipe cleaners and add them to our Tree of Life sculpture, a prevalent motif in pre-Columbian Mesoamerica among the Maya, Aztec, Izapan, Mixtec, Olmec, and others. The Habitot Grocery Store will be transformed into a Mercado, or Mexican market, where Mexican fabrics, tropical flowers and frutas y verduras can be "purchased."

Share some coffee and pastries, connect with other caregiving professionals and talk about the fun and challenges you face in raising others' children. Habitot staff will occupy your charges at nearby tables with art activities and puzzles while you take part in a facilitated group discussion. We hope to bring in outside experts to share their expertise on topics of interest. Free museum admission for all attendees following Caregiver Cafe let's you put new ideas into action.

Habitot presents another FREE, Family Fun Day - exclusive museum visit time for LGBTQ parents and children. Children 2-5 years old enjoy free reign to explore the museum's unique, interactive exhibits like a fire engine, water play zone and small-scale grocery store - supervised by Habitot's trained staff, of course. Meanwhile, parents meet for facilitated discussion and support in Habitot’s classroom annex. Pizza dinner is provided.
