Rainbow Family Night (LGBTQ Families) with Our Family Coalition
5:30 pm–7:30 pm
Join our free, drop-in with registration support group for gay and lesbian families and their 0-5 year old children, presented in partnership with Our Family. While parents engage in lively and supportive conversations facilitated by Habitot and Our Family staff in our classroom annex (Habitot, Too), children play (with supervision) in the Museum.

Cinco De Mayo
9:30 am–12:30 pm
Celebrate Mexican heritage and pride in Habitot’s Art Studio, creating traditional Mexican paper owers with multicolored tissue paper and pipe cleaners and add them to our Tree of Life sculpture, a prevalent motif in pre-Columbian Mesoamerica among the Maya, Aztec, Izapan, Mixtec, Olmec, and others. The Habitot Grocery Store will be transformed into a Mercado, or Mexican market, where Mexican fabrics, tropical owers and frutas y verduras can be "purchased."

Children's Day! Kodomo-no-hi!
9:30 am–4:30 pm
FREE ADMISSION DAY! Join our celebration of Japanese Children's Day which historically occurs on May 5. Visitors can try out ‘samurai hats' or ‘kabuto’, and create Japanese carp kites - koinobori” - from colorful tissue papers, strings and ribbons to fly in Habitot’s Wind Tunnel. Venture over to the multi-cultural reading tent featuring Japanese children’s stories. Then at 3pm taste mochi rice cakes in the snack room. Car Seat Check!

Trained technicians will install and/or inspect your car seat. Offered with support from retired police officer, Bob Rollins, and the City of Alameda Police Department. Did you know that 90% are installed incorrectly and children are at risk? Participants will receive a guest pass for Habitot admission. Located at City Hall parking lot in Alameda.
