The Culinary Dude will introduce your child to new foods and age-appropriate cooking techniques in this hands-on class. Make and eat dazzling and delectable healthy meals and snacks. Come and create meals with a focus on learning and culture for young children. Marinette Tovar shares stories from her culinary upbringing in Mexico while teaching about the traditional foods and culture in Latin cooking. Kids will get to create, get messy with tasty meals such as guacamole, salsas, enchiladas and more. Mamas & Papas (LGBTQ Families) with Our Family Coalition

Join our free, drop-in support group for gay and lesbian families and their 0-5 year old children, presented in partnership with Our Family. While parents engage in lively and supportive conversations facilitated by Habitot and Our Family staff in our classroom annex (Habitot, Too), children play (with supervision) in the Museum.

Hip Stix - FREE with admission - in the museum
10:30 am–11:15 am
Hip Stix gets your tots and preschoolers hippin' and hoppin' by introducing basic rhythm, funky free movement, and original kid friendly raps and chants. Using rhythm sticks, your tyke will explore preschool basics such as the alphabet, shapes, colors, and numbers through the language we all can understand, music!

Hip Stix creator, Alicia Langlais-Himelstein, is an experienced pilates and dance fitness instructor, and has over 12 years of training in ballet and modern, and 5 years of folkloric and hip-hop dance. Also, she is a very popular sing-along group leader at the Alameda Main Public Library. Most importantly, Alicia enjoys being an Oakland wife and stay-at-home mom to her sons Solomon and Malakai.

Caregiver Café

Share some coffee and pastries, connect with other caregiving professionals and talk about the fun and challenges you face in raising others' children. Habitot staff will occupy your charges at nearby tables with art activities and puzzles while you take part in a facilitated group discussion. We hope to bring in outside experts to share their expertise on topics of interest. Free museum admission for all attendees following Caregiver Cafe let's you put new ideas into action.
