Habitot Children's Museum Celebrates Black History Month
(Berkeley, CA) February 1-28, 2013
Celebrate Black History at Habitot Children’s Museum beginning on Friday, February 1 from 9:30 am – 4:30 pm. Listen to the strains of 20th century jazz throughout the day and create collage pictures in the style of Romare Bearden in the Art Studio. Throughout the month, add to Habitot’s community quilt, which will be on display at the end of the month. Children can also discover inspiring inventions made by African Americans, like the traffic light and ice cream scoop at the interactive Inventors Table.

About Habitot Children's Museum
Habitot Children's Museum was founded by parents and educators in 1992 to meet the unique needs and interests of infants, toddlers and preschoolers in a safe and appropriate community setting. Habitot’s mission is to help the broad community of parents and caregivers raise curious, creative and confident children. Hands-on exhibits and programs focus exclusively on early childhood.
Since opening in 1998, Habitot has welcomed over 930,000 people, filling a niche for new parents and caregivers who seek safe, appropriate and enriching experiences for young children, 0-5, as well as parenting support, connection and information for themselves.
Habitot Children’s Museum has been recognized as the “best museum for families” by Bay Area Parent Magazine readers and as a “five star destination” by the Lila Guide, along with numerous other accolades for its educational programs and community outreach. In addition, Habitot’s founder, Gina Moreland, has been honored for her years of public service in creating Habitot with a Bay Area “Jefferson Award”, as well as with a 2006 proclamation from the City of Berkeley as “Early Childhood Champion of the Year.” In 2010, 2011 and in 2012, Habitot was designated a “Top Non-profit” by GreatNonprofits, a leading provider of reviews and ratings of nonprofit organizations.
